Campground description

Cowans Gap State Park, nestled in Fulton and Franklin counties, spans 1,085 acres and offers a full campground with 224 sites suitable for tents and RVs (up to 20‑amp electric). Open mid‑April to mid‑December, the campground features modern restrooms, hot showers, potable water, fire rings, and picnic tables. Group camping areas are also available, and pets are allowed on leash.

There are 10 rustic cabins built by the CCC, equipped with stoves, refrigerators, fireplaces, and bunks. An onsite sanitary dump station and laundry tubs are provided. The park’s recreation includes a 42‑acre lake with a swimming beach and boat ramp, extensive picnic facilities, and 10 miles of hiking and, in winter, cross‑country skiing. Boating, fishing, hunting, and ice‑skating are popular seasonal activities. No long‑term rates are offered, and connectivity is limited to paid Wi‑Fi at the office. Its natural setting makes Cowans Gap ideal for families, outdoor adventurers, and those seeking state‑park tranquility with essential amenities.

Had a great time Camping here

Had a great time Camping here for 2 nights with family. The facilities are clean and well maintained, all at a reasonable price. The beaches and trails are well maintained with plenty of restrooms for use. Hiked the lakeside trail and the overlook trail . Great views of the lake and the beach from both.

Cowans gap state park is my favorite park

Cowans gap state park is my favorite park. This is an amazing outdoor recreational park nestled on the mountains of Buchanan Pennsylvania. There are several trails to enjoy and the overlook trail gives you the most amazing view of the gap. The best part is that you can ride the bike along side the lake trail and have great time with the family. A highly recommended outdoor recreational park nestled park for the family. Ample parking and beautiful landscapes.

This is a great campground!

This is a great campground! I definitely recommend it! The bathrooms and campground were clean. There are paths by a creek that lead to the lake and are a fairly easy walk. There is a more strenuous hike to Cowans Gap Overlook – it is a beautiful view.

I recently stayed at Cowans Gap State Park and loved their dog-friendly camping area. It’s perfect for those who enjoy walking to the lake and being surrounded by nature. During my hike, I encountered a rattlesnake, so remember to stay on marked trails, wear sturdy shoes, and be alert for any wildlife, especially snakes. Overall, a great spot for nature enthusiasts and their furry friends!

Always clean, free and fun for everyone.

Cowans gap has been a great local summer escape for my family. Always clean, free and fun for everyone. The kids love the beach and the water that is feels great on our hot summer days we had. There is a concession stand, the prices are kinda high though. Guess that’s not too bad since it’s free to get in. There are picnic tables close to the beach acces along with built in barbecues as well.

Great experience camping here.

Great experience camping here. We were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. The lake was fun for the kids, and there were lots of trails to explore. Price was affordable, and even though the lake was busy for the weekend, everyone was pleasant, and there were no issues. Park staff was helpful and friendly. We will definitely return. The only negative is that there is no cell service in the area (AT&T) but that’s not the park’s fault.
